In short: Thanks to the polyester blend, AIRism fabric gives you a nice soft and silky texture that Supima cotton cannot offer. However, the Supima tee shirt fits better on the body.
You’ve probably seen the AIRism and Supima collections when shopping at a Uniqlo store. What are the differences between the two? In this article, I will break down both fabrics.
Uniqlo AIRism overview
Uniqlo AIRism is a brand of highly functional underwear. It was developed around the innovative concept of using ultra-fine fibers to regulate the circulation of the air trapped inside clothes.
AIRism has three main features: moisture-wicking, dries fast, and controls odor. All of these properties combine to help your body to breathe and diffuse the heat from under your clothes.
Because it is able to absorb and quickly evaporate excess moisture, the AIRism fabric keeps your skin comfortable and eliminates unpleasant odors caused by sweat.
There are versatile pieces for men, women, and children available in the AIRism collection. It offers comfortable and easy-to-wear polos and t-shirts with a smooth and cool skin feel.
Uniqlo Supima overview
Supima cotton is a superior type of cotton grown in the southwest United States. It represents less than 1% of cotton grown in the world. The fibers are 35 mm or longer.
What makes Supima unique from other cotton is the extra-long staple fiber that gives the cotton its premium properties: strength, softness, and color retention.
Furthermore, the yarn is produced via compact spinning, a special method for suppressing fuzz. It takes longer than other methods, but it results in a pleasantly soft and smooth texture.
Compared to regular cotton, Supima cotton is lighter but 45% stronger. Because of this, Supima cotton is naturally going to be more durable and comfortable.
Uniqlo Supima cotton tee shirts are very lightweight. For reference, a size LARGE Supima cotton tee shirt weighs less than a size SMALL Uniqlo U tee shirt and an AIRism tee shirt.
Difference between AIRism and Supima
In terms of comfort, the clear winner is AIRism. Because of how soft, stretchy, and cool the fabric is, it is the perfect tee shirt for sleeping, relaxing, going out, and basically anything in life.
Thanks to the polyester blend inside, the AIRism fabric gives you a nice soft and silky texture that Supima cotton cannot offer. It is simply comfortable and pleasant to wear.
However, in terms of fit, the Supima tee shirt is the winner. This is a subjective choice because I prefer fitted clothing, but I think the Supima tee fits my body seamlessly like a well-fitted glove.
The sleeves hit right on the mid biceps, the length hits the mid groin, and the shoulder and chest have the perfect opening. Overall, the Supima highlights my hard work at the gym.
